I started running marathons 10 years ago. I had been biking about 25 miles a day, commuting to work, and blew my knees out during a 2-week Santa Ana condition. My doc instructed me to crosstrain, and suggested running as a way to give my knees a rest from the cycling motion. It worked, but I found I had to run farther than I ever had, to achieve the same aerobic conditioning as I had while biking. I loved it, so I decided to run a marathon. That was my first race! I finished and thought, “I can do better than this. When’s the next one?”
