I have to write something in response so that you know your dutiful training monkey finally made it to the end. If I were writing an essay about your post, I could probably even say that you purposefully dragged it on and on and on so that we, the readers, would empathize with your pain of wondering, "When in the heck will the finish line finally be here?!?" HEH! Halfway kidding, of course. It is long, but definitely worth the read.

What's this about dry heaving at the end of McConnell's? You always say you've never run to the point of feeling like you need to toss your cookies. In my book, dry heaving certainly counts as cookie tossing.

Speaking of cookies, if I hadn't been in Arkansas, maybe I would have handed you some along the course. If someone were feeding ME cookies, maybe that would finally inspire me to run it. But probably not.

Good job, my hero. The end.

Hi Maggie....that was so enjoyable to read that I smiled the whole time. During P2P I was thrilled to watch you climb because being able to see you in front made me feel like I wasn't so slow. Loved your bright people, dumb enough comment. Maybe the race slogan should be "Are You Dumb Enough?" . Great race, great blog post. Maybe Brian will get off my back now :)

Hooray! The writer's block is broken! Perhaps you just needed the altitude to un-pop your ears and let that cool mountain air engage a couple of synapses. Now doesn't that feel better?
Thanks for letting me draft along with you on the tempo runs. Two years ago, I ran P2P in 2:50, Last year I ran 2:25, and now this year I ran 2:15. I'm starting to think there might be something to all of this training stuff after all.
I agree...for some reason P2P is a fun run which seems weird to say. This year was particularly fun because of all of the camaraderie from all our friends in Rusty and Mike's group.
I knew you and Paula were back there somewhere and that helped keep me going...not that I cared about beating you all but more that I knew I was at a good pace. I wish I had known better where people were because then I would have seen Paula sneak past me with 3 seconds to go in the race. I was a little miffed until I found out that by passing me she pushed me into 70th place so I understood her motivations : )
Anyways, great essay and I'll see you bright and early at the track. I assume he'll go easy on us.

Welcome Back, Kotter!

Hi Maggie. If you want to know what "rales" sound like and you don't have a stethoscope, take a lock of hair and roll it back and forth between your thumb and index finger while holding it right over your ear. If you had rales you had a bit more then a chest cold and I am astonished that you could even finish the ten miler! Nichol

Maggie,
By accident I stumbled across your site here, I even forgot what I was looking for. My problems with weight are very much just like yours. I'm a runner the past 20 years and more.
I always make a habit of weighting myself every morning; for one thing I always have the problem of loosing too much weight "to fast."
Of course it's your fluids your loosing. A good easy to remember tale I was always told by the old timers was:

If you loose more than 5 pounds than the previous day, drink up! I live in the south so it's easy to drop 5 lbs going out on a 4 or 5 mile run.

Stop by any time, Gary Cooper the Runner

SOME of us have more fun running 26.2 than 1. Isn't that strange? I keep waiting for the day when I can run hard enough to hurl, but it eludes me yet.
